The Hartford Consortium for Higher Education is hiring a College Access Advisor to work with middle and secondary school students in our Career Beginnings College Access Program.

The program boosts post-secondary college-matriculation in the most underserved communities in Greater Hartford. At the center of our programming model is personalized and small group advising provided by our College Access Advisors. This personalized support provides the opportunity for the College Access Advisor to impact students positively and directly. Depending on specific assignments, College Access Advisors may work at an existing program location or assist in establishing the program in a new location.

College Access Advisor Significant responsibilities:

▪ Recruits new students each spring and fall at participating high schools and middle schools;

▪ Meets with and advises students at the participating schools during the school day and after school when necessary;

▪ Collaborates with school guidance staff and college admissions staff to maximize student success;

▪ Supports volunteer mentors;

▪ Plans and organizes and runs relevant workshops;

▪ Leads tours to Connecticut colleges and universities and workplaces;

▪ Communicates program goals and requirements to students and their parents;

▪ Tracks student progress towards their collegiate post-secondary plan;

▪ Maintains post-graduation support to students to ensure successful matriculation;

▪ Other work as directed by the Program Director.

 

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: ▪ Bachelor’s degree ▪ Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication ▪ Strong interpersonal and motivational skills ▪ Ability to report to multiple worksites and work flexible hours ▪ Ability to work independently

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: ▪ Master’s degree in counseling or related field ▪ 1-2 years prior teaching, counseling, or youth development work ▪ Bilingual English/Spanish ▪ Knowledge of higher education and the challenges faced by low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students ▪ Knowledge of Excel and Access

Salary Range: $35,000 to $40,000
