Helping students go to college and on to fulfilling careers!
Founded in 1986 as a program of the Hartford Consortium for Higher Education, Career Beginnings is a free, in-school program, connecting Hartford-area high schools, businesses, volunteers, mentors and parents in a coordinated effort to increase the percentage of teenagers who graduate from high school, pursue higher education, and fulfill career goals.
Career Beginnings supports students (11th and 12th grades) at the following schools:
- A.I.Prince Technical High School
- Bloomfield High School
- Bulkeley High School
- East Hartford High School
- Hartford Public High School
- New Visions Program
- Weaver High School
- Pathways Academy of Technology and Design
The program has four principal components:
STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
Career Beginnings’ advisors provide one-on-one, in-school support, in all participating high schools. Students meet regularly with advisors, where their progress in goal-setting is discussed, their academic situation(s) assessed and addressed, and plans for the future developed. Participating students receive:
• SAT fee waivers
• College Application fee waivers
• College visits and tours
• HCHE/CB Scholarship Book
